The first guitar in the seven-instrument Fort Gratiot Series, Prototype #1 is a handcrafted L-00 built with a distinctive combination of traditional tonewoods and Michigan character. A Sitka spruce top is paired with Michigan cherry back and sides, creating a beautiful contrast while giving this guitar a truly regional connection. Bloodwood binding and a box elder rosette add warmth and visual detail without taking away from the clean, classic appearance of the L-00 body.
The bridge, fretboard, and head plate are crafted from Marado, also known as Bolivian rosewood, tying the design together with a rich, natural look. A 24.75″ scale gives the guitar a comfortable feel, while a bone nut and saddle and 18:1 Schaller Mini tuners complete the build with quality components chosen for dependable performance. As Prototype #1, this guitar marks the beginning of the Fort Gratiot Series and is one of only seven instruments built as part of this special collection.
